The latest upgrade in Microsoft SharePoint technology i.e. Microsoft SharePoint 2016 has come up with a great adoption to meet the challenges in contemporary business practices. Since, the enterprises usually find the clients at remote places, and to deal with them, they need a mobile work force, who usually spend their work hours at the client locations. At the same time, they are required to be update their reporting managers with the details of the negotiations. Further, as they business may depend on the clients’ numbers and spread, as they need to add supporting human and material resources whenever required. Thus, mobility and scalability are usually two great sought-after attributes for today’s organizations. A mix of cloud and on-premises business solutions is extremely helpful in this regard.
Further, there are usually two types of organizations. There are ones which due to regulatory compliance provisions must have to keep key data only on-premises installations. But, at the same time, they need to interact with users working with hybrid environments. On the other hand, others wish to fully migrate to the cloud, but in phased manner. This helps them to minimize disruption during their day-to-day operations. In such cases, implementing hybrid features i.e. systems combing on-premises and cloud, provided by Microsoft are of great help.
Microsoft SharePoint 2016 combines the key features on SharePoint on-premises and SharePoint online, and allows the users a seamless experience of using local and cloud resources together. Here are a few key hybrid features provided in Microsoft SharePoint 2016:
1. Hybrid Search: With this feature, your entire crawled content, including on-premises content can be indexed to your search index in Office 365. So, whenever users query your search index in Office 365, they will obtain the unified search results from both on-premises and Office 365 content.
2. Hybrid OneDrive for Business– In SharePoint 2016, it has been provided that when the users click on the OneDrive or Sites links in the navigation bar, they’ll be redirected to the Office 365 cloud. Thus, using cloud storage leads to reduce the demand on storage amount on the local server farm. Further, the users can sync the files to Hybrid OneDrive for Business and share them. These files can be accessed from Office 365 applications. In the previous SharePoint versions, to link to the cloud OneDrive from SharePoint Server was not possible.
3. Hybrid Team Sites– This allows selective sharing of content with the external users. For this, a team can set up a collaboration space on SharePoint online, which the organization’s internal users or consultants can share with outside users or collaborators. SharePoint Administrator can set the appropriate permissions so that external users will not be able to see the organizational resources they are not permitted.
Last but not the least, an important point to be mentioned is that you can set the user profiles as per needs. For instance, some users may not need to be ‘hybrid users’, as they may be required to work strictly with on-premises data. So, they can have non-hybrid accounts, and they can still interact with the hybrid users smoothly. Needless to reiterate, that SharePoint 2016 helps you to blend the flexibility and control in your organization’s work culture.
